| Asheville Quilt Guild Our mission is to preserve and advance the tradition and art of quilting
|
The Asheville Quilt Guild shares a love of quilting with the next generation by teaching elementary school students the joy of sewing. Our dedicated volunteers bring sewing machines into local schools and guide 3rd and 4th grade students through hands-on quilting projects.
| In the first week, students learn basic sewing skills by creating a small four-patch pillow. Each child finishes their pillow during the session and takes it home—often their very first handmade project! |
| In the second week, students create personalized quilt blocks for a collaborative Immigration Quilt that is displayed at the school. This special project encourages children to explore their heritage. Each student reflects on their family’s origins and traditions to choose the colors for their block. Using the traditional nine-patch pattern, every block is unique. As a personal touch, each student signs their name in the center square of their block. |
