10:00 a.m. WAXON Studio – Jessica Kaufman – Batiking Fabric With Wood Blocks and Beeswax
Jessica will show the steps involved in batiking cellulosic fabrics (like cotton) with hand carved wood blocks specially designed for batiks. Using local beeswax and fiber reactive dyes, Jess’s shop, WAXON Studio, creates one of a kind, very limited fabrics and clothing made in this traditional way. Jessica Kaufman has her Masters degree in Craft Education, and is the owner & founder of Waxon Batik & Dye Studio in Asheville, NC. She travels the world to study and collect batik traditions and tools.

10:00 a.m. Thimbles For You – Jan Larson – How I Make Sterling Silver Thimbles
Jan is a silversmith who has been working as a thimble maker for about 12 years. Jan will show you how she uses the lost wax casting process to make thimbles in her studio; which are as lovely as they are functional. Jan will share a part of what it takes to fit a thimble as she describes her journey through the process.

1:30 p.m. Laura Murray Designs – Laura Murray – Repurpose Fabric With Paintstiks
Artist, entrepreneur, teacher, and author, Laura began her experimentation with textile color and texture in 1989. Her work, which appears in books, magazines, quilt calendars, and DVDs includes wearable art and award-winning quilts. Learn how to easily create the fabric of your dreams with a variety of easy techniques that transform plain fabric into special effects, subtle batiks, dramatic prints and more. No artistic skills needed; if you can hold a pencil, you can do this.
3:00 p.m. Rachel Haislip Smith – No Sewing Until You Quilt It
Rachel began working with Ann Holmes in 2010 helping her build quilts for her AQS book “No Sewing Until You Quilt It.” This demo will be finishing a partially constructed wall hanging. By the end, Rachel will be able to pick up and pass around the entire quilt top of turned edge pieces despite there being no sewing or pins. It will include straight pieces, points, and curves.

Angie has found her calling in teaching people quilting skills and shows how Bloc Loc rulers are an amazing way to be sure you have an accurate seam allowance and precise piecing.
